Driverless isn’t a recent milestone for us — it’s what our autonomy AI has been doing on public roads for six years. The Bay Area is home — we’ve held a California autonomous-driving test permit here since 2017 and a California driverless permit since 2020. These are the streets we know best.
In August 2025, we launched the Tensor Robocar, purpose-built for Level 4 from the ground up. While the Robocar moves toward volume production, the AI that drives it has been through multiple generations since 2016 — proven on a test fleet that has run driverless, with no safety driver, on public roads since 2020.
The Robocar is built from the ground up. Our 5th generation test fleet is retrofitted minivans. We run the two in parallel on the same autonomy AI — one stack, two very different vehicle bodies. The intelligence isn’t tied to the hardware.

We brought the future of mobility straight to New York, putting Tensor on display at the Lotte New York Palace, right outside Nasdaq in Times Square, and in front of the NYSE.
Beyond giving the public an exclusive, up-close look at the vehicle at these three iconic locations, we took the stage to share our vision for the future of mobility: a world where you don’t just own a car — you own your autonomy, with the complete freedom to choose whether to drive or be driven.
