Safety for autonomous driving

Tensor is the world’s first personal vehicle designed entirely around AI perception, with every contour shaped for optimal sensing. Over 100 strategically placed sensors provide the AI with the clearest, most reliable understanding of its surroundings, ensuring unmatched safety.

Maximize Field of View

Tensor’s design maximizes sensor visibility and minimizes occlusions for cameras, lidars, and radars, avoiding performance loss from covers or materials. Cameras are precisely placed to optimize coverage, prevent obstructions, and synchronize perfectly with lidar scanning patterns.

Tensor’s low front hood reduces blind spots, enhances pedestrian safety, and integrates a front blind-spot lidar for full forward coverage without added risk. Its rear design ensures clear lidar visibility, while uncovered radars maintain optimal signal strength and interference-free sensing in all directions.

Tensor’s profound robotic intelligence is seamlessly housed within a unified obsidian-black functional fascia, cloaked beneath a liquid metal skin. These obsidian-black surfaces discreetly house essential components—sensors, protective covers, cleaning systems, lights, and displays—subtly embodying the intelligence of a highly advanced AI.

Instead of displaying technology overtly, Tensor embraces a philosophy of intelligence made invisible—where complexity is hidden within simplicity. Its smooth, sculpted body acts as the attire of an intelligent machine, blending form and function in perfect balance. At Tensor, we believe AGI will unlock unprecedented physical abundance. In this new AI-abundant era, no one should be confined to a cramped cabin. You deserve the freedom to enjoy generous space in your autonomous robocar. That’s why Tensor Robocar is built with the presence of a large SUV—featuring a 124.0-in wheelbase, 217.5-in overall length, and 79.9-in width (excl. side mirrors).

Air drag

This elegant design also promotes energy efficiency. An air drag coefficient of 0.253 has been achieved. For an SUV of its size and weight—particularly one with numerous external sensors—this drag coefficient is considered low.  This highly aerodynamic excellence is not only environmentally friendly but also conserves extra electricity to power the autonomous driving sensors and supercomputer.

Tensor’s Active Grille Shutter adjusts from 0° to 90° to cut aerodynamic drag by 10%, adding up to 11 miles of range in WLTP testing. It also shields the battery and cooling systems from harsh conditions, ensuring safety and longevity.

Tensor AI CarMoji

Tensor’s Robocar uses four P1-grade RGB MiniLED displays integrated with its Daytime Running Lights to communicate with pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles. Each display packs 7,496 MiniLEDs for bright, weather-resistant animations that signal intent, show status, or deliver personalized messages.

Tensor’s AI-powered Matrix LED headlights offer pixel-level beam control and adaptive illumination that adjusts to driving conditions. Their smoked, tinted finish adds a sleek, striking look.

Coach Doors

Tensor’s AI-powered soft-close coach doors, inspired by ultra-luxury vehicles, open wide for graceful entry and exit. Front doors open to 81 degrees and rear doors to 89 degrees, offering an exceptionally spacious welcome.

AI and radar-guided, Tensor’s doors adjust their opening to avoid obstacles and make child seat installation easier. Their soft-close mechanism operates silently, replacing the slam of traditional doors with a smooth, quiet entry and exit.

World’s First
Foldable Steering Wheel

In partnership with Autoliv, ZF, and Veoneer, Tensor debuts the world’s first mass-produced foldable steering wheel for true autonomous driving. Its redundant Drive-by-Wire system keeps the wheel and pedals stationary in Level 4 mode, ensuring safety and eliminating the sensation of “ghost driving.”

In autonomous mode, Tensor’s steering wheel folds quietly in seconds, creating six extra inches of space for greater comfort. Paired with an anti-pinch sliding center screen and adjustable steering column, it delivers a calmer, more spacious driving experience.

In Manual Driving Mode, our yoke steering wheel design ensures zero forward obstruction for superior visibility. There are no complicated buttons or switches – only simple controls for intuitive, clutter-free operation.

Tensor features the industry’s first fully redundant four-wheel steering system using advanced drive-by-wire technology. By replacing mechanical controls with precise electronic signals, its AI can safely and accurately direct vehicle movements without human input.

Redundant Steer-by-Wire

Safety is paramount, which is why our drive-by-wire system includes comprehensive redundancy. If any system encounters an issue, a backup immediately takes over. Redundancy is integrated at every step—from dual power supplies, communication channels, and controllers, to dual-winding motors and redundant sensors. Tensor’s steer-by-wire system meets the highest automotive safety standards, complying fully with ISO 26262 ASIL D safety standards. Its adaptive steering ratio also enhances manual driving, eliminating hand-over-hand turns and enabling smooth, precise maneuvers at any speed.

World’s First Foldable Pedals

Through our partnership with Batz, Tensor also debuts the world’s first foldable pedals. In autonomous driving mode, accelerator and brake pedals retract neatly into a hidden position, significantly expanding cabin space. When manual mode resumes, pedals automatically redeploy for normal braking and acceleration.

Redundant Brake-by-Wire

Our advanced brake-by-wire system features the industry-leading Bosch’s latest braking system technology with a triple-redundancy architecture. It integrates the Bosch Electronic Stability Program (ESP 10), combined with Decoupled Power Brake (DPB 2) and redundant Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) — providing triple redundancy in power supply, communication, and functionality. Tensor's steer-by-wire and brake-by-wire systems fully comply with ISO 26262 ASIL-D requirements, meeting the highest automotive safety standards.

Tensor L4 EEA

Tensor’s driverless-ready Electrical and Electronic Architecture is built with unmatched redundancy, eliminating single points of failure. Designed from the ground up for scalable autonomous Robocars, it redefines vehicle architecture with backup systems for sensors, communications, drive-by-wire, power, and thermal management.

Tensor’s EEA uses resettable e-fuses instead of traditional fuses, allowing instant power cut-off during overloads and automatic restoration once issues are resolved. This innovation lets the vehicle continue its autonomous journey without roadside assistance, even with no one onboard.

Tensor VDU

Tensor’s self-developed Vehicle Domain Unit, powered by NXP’s S32G chipset and AutoSAR architecture, centralizes all vehicle functions for precise, seamless control. Developed with FEV, it supports continuous software upgrades, enhanced safety, and unmatched adaptability for the AI-defined vehicle era.

Tensor OTA update Everything

A modern vehicle is more than mechanics—it’s a sophisticated network of electronics, chips, software, and firmware. These elements need continuous learning and evolution for better performance, safety, and efficiency. Unlike most vehicles today, Tensor’s fully integrated EEA supports comprehensive Over-The-Air (OTA) updates for every component—including VDU, lidars, cameras, and even sensor-cleaning systems.

Redundant Power

Tensor introduces the world’s first Full-Link Intelligent Power Distribution with full-stack redundancy, exceeding industry safety standards and meeting ASIL D certification. Real-time health monitoring and predictive maintenance ensure maximum reliability for autonomous driving.

Integrated Thermal Management

Tensor is hyper-local by design. In hotter climates, extended idling in traffic with max AC followed by high-speed driving, places intense stress on thermal systems. Tensor’s oversized, high-efficiency thermal architecture is purpose-built to meet these challenges with ease.

Tensor’s Multi-Heat-Source Coupled Heat Pump System recycles waste heat from the supercomputer, sensors, and other components to warm the cabin and battery. By balancing heating and cooling needs, it boosts winter driving range by over 20% while ensuring all-weather comfort.

Tensor’s autonomous thermal system is isolated from the main circuit, ensuring critical functions remain operational during a coolant leak. This gives the AI time to safely enter Minimal Risk Management mode, such as pulling over.

Multiple hardware and software redundancies protect sensors and controllers during leaks or thermal events, ensuring prolonged safe operation. Tensor’s compact Thermal Package integrates advanced thermal management and redundancy for consistent reliability on every journey.

By utilizing industry-leading 2 GPa Ultra-High-Strength Steel in the passenger cabin, Tensor delivers fortress-like protection for every occupant. At the same time, lightweight aluminum alloys are strategically applied to the front hood, doors, and rear hatch, reducing weight by approximately 30 to 40% compared to traditional steel components.

Tensor’s rear-wheel steering turns up to ±7°, giving it a compact 18.5-ft turning radius that outperforms vehicles of similar size. Its fully redundant drive-by-wire system enhances safety, while decoupled steering and braking provide smooth, customizable comfort and control.

Air Suspension

Tensor’s double wishbone front and multi-link rear air suspension deliver a smooth yet sporty ride with 2.75 inches of height adjustment. It automatically levels on uneven surfaces, ensuring passenger comfort and superior NVH control.

AI Magic Carpet

Tensor’s “magic carpet” suspension uses AI-powered sensors to detect road imperfections and adjust stiffness and damping in real time. The result is a smooth, stable ride that absorbs bumps and keeps the body level for unmatched comfort.

Tensor’s Camera Monitoring System replaces conventional mirrors to reduce blind spots and improve visibility in all conditions, with heated lenses to prevent fogging. Traditional mirrors are available for regulated markets and remain upgrade-ready.

Developed with Autoliv, Tensor’s 12-airbag matrix includes the world’s first driver-side Instrument Panel airbag for foldable steering wheels. This innovation ensures full protection in Level 4 autonomous mode, advancing safety from passive to intelligent and proactive.

Tensor meets the toughest global crash standards, including FMVSS, IIHS Top Safety Pick+, and US NCAP 5-Star, as well as European and GCC requirements. Its body-battery integration delivers over 45k lb·ft/deg torsional rigidity, surpassing most EVs and matching million-dollar luxury cars.

Door Safety

Dual-power coach doors

Tensor’s AI-powered electric coach doors use sensors and soft-close mechanisms to prevent pinching while adding luxury. With radar obstacle detection, electronic child locks, and a de-icing system that applies over 110 pounds of force, they ensure safe, reliable operation in any condition.

For added safety, the doors feature a dual independent power supply design located at both the front and rear of the vehicle. In the event of an emergency, as long as one power supply remains active, the doors can automatically open to assist with a swift rescue. Additionally, the door motors are engineered with powerful anti-ice and anti-deformation capabilities, providing the strength needed to push the doors open even if the doors are obstructed or deformed, ensuring reliable access when it matters most.

Windshield Heating

PD tungsten wire tech

Tensor’s heated windshield uses PD tungsten wires to clear ice and fog in 30 seconds, covering over 95% of the surface. This system improves visibility, cuts energy use by 40%, and works alongside the advanced Camera Monitoring System for safer manual driving.

Smoke Detector

World's first

Tensor also introduces the world’s first integrated cabin smoke detector, sensitive to carbon monoxide concentrations greater than 20 ppm. The measuring range of the device is 0~5000 ppm. In the rare event of a fire risk, this detector alerts the autonomous system and the owner to execute maximum safety measures immediately. Additionally, if smoking isn’t permitted, the vehicle promptly alerts passengers to stop.
