We are seeking an FP&A Manager to build the company's planning function. You will own the long-range operating model that underpins fundraising, board, and investor materials — it must be rigorous, defensible, and consistent — and convert that model into the budgeting, forecasting, and management-reporting rhythm of an institutional-grade finance organization. This role also owns near-term treasury/cash forecasting until a dedicated function is built.

Locations

  • San Jose, California, US (Salary Range: $75k—$350k USD)

Responsibilities

  • Own the integrated long-range financial model (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow): unit economics, production ramp, capex, and liquidity runway, with documented assumptions and scenario/sensitivity analysis.
  • Support financing and strategic workstreams: projections and diligence responses for investors, lenders, and advisors, and board materials — with full consistency across all versions.
  • Stand up the corporate planning calendar: annual operating plan, quarterly reforecasts, and rolling cash forecasts, with department-level budgets and named budget owners.
  • Deliver monthly management reporting: budget-vs-actual variance analysis with accounting, KPI dashboards, and clear narratives for the executive team and board.
  • Build a disciplined forecasting and metrics framework to support reporting on external timelines.
  • Instill spend discipline: partner with budget owners on headcount and purchase approvals, and connect the PO process to budget checks.
  • Own capex planning and program-level cost tracking for vehicle, manufacturing, and infrastructure investments; own near-term cash forecasting and treasury support.
  • Implement a planning system (e.g., Adaptive, Anaplan, Pigment) and management-reporting stack connected to the ERP.
  • Build and lead a small FP&A team over time.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field.
  • 8+ years of FP&A experience with increasing scope, ideally spanning investment banking/consulting and corporate FP&A.
  • Experience supporting fundraising or strategic transactions: building models used by external investors and withstanding diligence.
  • Expert three-statement financial modeling; strong command of unit economics for hardware/manufacturing businesses.
  • Experience building the FP&A function, calendar, and tooling from an early stage.
  • Executive-level communication: able to distill complexity into clear board and investor narratives.
  • High integrity around projections: rigorous versioning, assumptions documentation, and consistency control.

Preferences

  • Automotive, EV, robotics, or capital-intensive hardware experience with production-ramp modeling.
  • MBA or CFA.
  • Experience supporting a company through public-company readiness and external guidance/metrics.
  • Planning-tool implementation experience (Adaptive, Anaplan, Pigment).
