We are seeking a Technical Accounting & Reporting Manager to be the company's authority on US GAAP and external financial reporting as we scale toward public-company readiness. You will own technical accounting positions on complex matters, build the accounting policy framework, prepare the organization for external reporting, and drive audit quality to public-company standards.

Locations

  • San Jose, California, US (Salary Range: $75k—$350k USD)

Responsibilities

  • Research, conclude, and document complex accounting matters in audit-ready position memos: revenue (ASC 606), leases (ASC 842), stock compensation (ASC 718), inventory (ASC 330), capitalized software (ASC 350/985), business combinations, and equity, warrant, and financing-instrument accounting (ASC 815/480).
  • Establish the company's accounting policy framework and a technical accounting review process for new products, contracts, and transactions.
  • Build external-reporting readiness: financial statements and footnotes, MD&A, and the processes, calendars, and disclosure controls needed to report on external timelines (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K readiness).
  • Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules for financing and strategic transactions, and coordinate related workstreams with legal and outside advisors.
  • Manage the external audit day to day; elevate current and prior-period audits to public-company standards and clear open items on schedule.
  • Partner with the Accounting Manager on close-process improvements needed to meet accelerated external reporting deadlines.
  • Coordinate internal-control (SOX-style) readiness for the financial reporting cycle and implement disclosure management tooling (e.g., Workiva).
  • Own segment reporting, going-concern, and other judgmental disclosure areas; support audit committee and board reporting materials.
  • Manage outside advisors (Big 4 accounting advisory, valuation specialists) efficiently against fixed deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting; active CPA required.
  • 10+ years spanning Big 4 public accounting and public-company external reporting or technical accounting.
  • Experience preparing a company for public-company reporting, including external financial statements, footnotes, and MD&A.
  • Expert command of US GAAP and SEC reporting rules (Regulation S-X, S-K), including disclosure requirements for early-revenue companies.
  • Hands-on experience with complex equity, warrant, financing-instrument, and business-combination accounting.
  • Proven ability to write clear, defensible technical memos and defend positions with auditors.
  • Ability to operate across parallel workstreams against hard external deadlines.

Preference

  • Experience in automotive, hardware, or other capital-intensive manufacturing businesses.
  • Experience standing up SOX 404(a)/(b) programs in a first year of public-company reporting.
  • Workiva (or equivalent) implementation experience.
  • Experience supporting audit committee reporting and materials.
